CATE & ROD'S
watch the teaser filM
We first met up with Cate & Rod at their apartment in South Philadelphia to do a story session. We chatted about how they met at Penn State and what things made them who they are as a couple. We quickly learned something – they’re a lot of fun. Rod gave us a bunch of laughs with his “Philly lingo” as we roamed the streets of the city getting footage of them just being them. It felt like we were hanging out with old friends – which certainly became true over time.
Cate & Rod’s wedding took place on an unseasonably-warm October day overlooking the greens of the Scranton Country Club. Their personalized vows were the perfect blend of intimacy and humor. They had a sweet Cadillac from the 1960’s (Rod can tell you the exact year). Their friends gave heartfelt and funny speeches. The dance floor was a PARTY. During editing, we asked Cate to send us a bunch of photos from their college years and Philly sporting events they attended. A bunch of these made it into their film and I think it added an extra layer of personalization.
Through it all, this is a wedding film that truly captures two people as they are. A snapshot of their lives in this very moment. When imperfection equals sincerity. As our friend Danielle Coons stated, “this film is them”. This is the work we strive to create.
When we sent them their final film, I don’t think I’ve ever seen somebody more excited. They absolutely loved it. Cate sent us messages for a week. She told us big Rod even shed a few tears. A few weeks later, they invited us over to their house for pizza and beers. Remember that part about becoming old friends? It came true. This is one of my favorite films for many reasons, but most importantly just seeing the happiness it brought them reminds me of why I love doing this job.
